Acton Parish Council seeks to protect and look after the parish ensuring that everything which makes our parish unique and special is not spoilt by unsympathetic and selfish developments. Finding that fine line between maintaining distinctive and attractive features, whilst helping the parish to change and adapt, is not always an easy task.
Unless planning regulations dictate otherwise, all planning applications received by Babergh District Council that relate to Acton are sent to the Parish Council for consideration. There is a 21 day time limit set within which the Parish Council's views have to be returned to the District Council.
All planning applications for new builds or change of use, whether residential or industrial/commercial, are discussed either at a specially convened council meeting or at a scheduled council meeting. Other applications are dealt with at a bi-monthly council meeting whenever possible but, if the District Council time limit does not allow this to be done, the Parish Clerk has delegated power to respond after appropriate consultation.
Although the Parish Council is consulted, it is Babergh District Council that decides the outcome of each application.
